4% for Defence: a Single Goal, Thousands of Voices
Overview
In tense times, decisive action speaks volumes. The “4% for Defence” initiative emerged as a civic movement urging Lithuania to increase its national defense funding to 4% of GDP, reflecting a strong commitment to national security. Spearheaded by leading business organizations, this movement quickly gained traction, uniting major companies, startups, and organizations in a shared cause.
We’re proud to have contributed to this initiative by shaping its visual direction and building the website. The visual identity extended beyond the digital realm, appearing in TV ads, city streets, social media, and even basketball courts.
The campaign achieved significant results: over 50,000 electronic signatures were collected in support of increased defense funding. Public opinion shifted notably, with 68% of citizens agreeing that national defense should be a top political priority. These outcomes contributed to a policy commitment, with Lithuania pledging to allocate 5–6% of its GDP to defense in 2025.
Reflecting Every Stage
The website evolved alongside the initiative itself, adapting to each stage as the movement gained momentum. The first version introduced the cause and featured a live counter tracking electronic signatures in real time. As the Seimas elections approached, the focus shifted - highlighting political party positions on defense spending to help inform voters. In its most recent stage, the site became a space for updates and news, including the milestone announcement that Lithuania had committed to allocating 5–6% of its GDP to national defense - surpassing the initiative’s original goal.
